TEHRAN – Iranian chief diplomat Manuchehr Mottaki and Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi discussed on Monday cooperation especially in training Iraqi diplomats.

Mottaki and Adbul Mahdi also called for improving comprehensive relations between the two neighbors. They stressed that Tehran and Baghdad have the potential to further expand their trade ties.
Iran resumed diplomatic relations with its Arab neighbor after the U.S.-led forces toppled the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Mottaki and the visiting Iraqi vice president also held talks over the latest developments in the region.
The two sides discussed the proposed security pact between the United States and Iraq and the need for a swift withdrawal of foreign troops form the violence-ravaged country.
Washington is seeking to sign a security pact with Baghdad that would give a legal basis for U.S. troops to stay in Iraq after December 31, when the United Nations mandate expires.
